A WORD ABOUT THE PAPER ON WHICH POST CARDS ARE PRINTED. According to postal regulations the paper has to have a minimum spec .007 inches. Printers may used an uncoated stock or a coated stock. uncoated card stock has no clay in the paper for ink hold out, therefore colored pictures do not stand out like they would if the card was printed on a coated stock like the National Geographic Magazine. Coated postcard paper is normally a cover paper that is coated on one side and uncoated on the back because it is most difficult to write a message on a coated paper because of ink holdout properties. Ball-points smear and pencils cannot be read when writing on coated stock.

A WORD ABOUT THE SHINY PLASTIC COATINGS THAT APPEAR ON MOST POSTCARDS THAT ARE SOLD TODAY. The idea behind the coating is to enhance and protect the picture while it travels through the mail. Coatings listed in this form are with ease of application.
  1. Aqueous coating. Press applied as last step in printing. Glossy lie coating.
  2. UV coating. A gloss plastic liquid resin applied after printing. More durable coating found on some commercial postcards.
  3. Film lamination is found on most commercial postcards.
The rule on thumb tells us the number one coating is the least expensive because it is a single process printing application. However a specialty postcard company can process film laminated postcards within a half cent on the aqueous card. My position on the coating is as follows. Postcards used for advertising products generally have a short life span and it does not make any difference how the card is coated. Cards upon which memories are captured for a lifetime should be film laminated. So you have a choice to make in the form below.

The cost of printing equipment determines how post cards are printed. Every postcard printer will print as many postcards on the same sheet of paper as his press size will allow. For this reason you can order postcards in standard quantities like 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000. Some printers will offer you quantities like 1000, 1500, 2000, 3000, 6000 etc. It is up to you to choose the printer, the delivery date, price and quantity that best fits your budget.

If you require a custom cut or size postcard please use the CUSTOM POSTCARD FORM.
